1857 - Founding of the company by Antoine Lescure, in Selongey (France Burgundy).
1925 - Re-launching of the company "Société dEmboutissage de Bourgogne" by Messrs Jean, Frédéric and Henri Lescure.
1953 - launching of the first stamped pressure cooker
1967 - entry into the domestic electrical appliance market. Launching of the first odourless electric fryer.
1968 - Integration of Tefal, specialists in non-stick cookware.
1972 - Integration of Calor, specialists in irons, hair dryers and portable radiators.
1973 - Creation of the holding company SEB SA and formation of the group.
1975 - Introduction of the SEB share on the Paris Stock Market.
1988 - Integration of Rowenta making products such as irons, electric coffee makers toasters and vacuum cleaners.
1989 - Opening of a plant in Toluca, Mexico, to produce electric appliances for the North American market.
1992/1993 - Opening of marketing subsidiaries in Eastern European countries.
1994 - Reinforcement of operations in Asia (Hong Kong and Shangai) and in South America (Buenos Aires).
1995 - Creation of a subsidiary in India. Opening of representative offices in Pekin and Canton.
1996 - Creation of a joint venture in China (takeover of the first Chinese iron producer). Opening of representative offices in Dubai, Kiev and Bucharest. Launching of industrial activity in India.
1997 - Acquisition of 44% of the capital of Arno, Brazils leader in small electrical appliances. Creation of two subsidiaries, one in Chile and one in South Korea. Opening of representative offices in Egypt (Cairo). Creation of a joint venture in Greece : SEB-Benrubi.
1998 - The group share in Arnos capital was increased to 98%. Acquisition of Volmo, the Colombian and Venezuelan leader for small domestic appliances. Opening of subsidiaries in Sydney (Australia) and Johannesburg (South Africa)
1999 -Opening of representative offices in Bangkok (Thailand) and in Auckland (New Zealand).
What you need to know about the Group
Present in more than 120 countries, the Group, with 130 millions of items produced and sold, is one of the world leaders of small domestic equipment. The only vocation and goal of the Group is to provide all consumers in the world with items and services whose aim is to simplify and improve their daily life. In 1998, Seb had a turnover of 1764 million euros, among which 74% out of France and 43% out of European Union.
The companys products are famous all over the world under the international brands Rowenta and Tefal and locally under the brands : Arno, Calor, Seb, T.fal and Samurai, market leaders.

The factory site of Selongey
Today, the factory of Selongey and its subsidiary (Is sur Tille) employ 1 200 people.
All the items which are produced by SEB factories are stocked and distributed from the vast warehouses situated in Selongey near the train station.
The output of the factory is considerable : it comprises half of the pressure cookers sales in France and in the world.
We can say that the Group is one of the best examples of economic success and is one of the flagships of French companies.
