The evolution of the economy : a real boom thanks to SEB
The district of Selongey remained a wine-growing area for many years. A population drift from Alsace in 1870, led to the disappearance of viniculture.
Hops were cultivated instead, till world war two. Since then, the economy has been based on agriculture. Today, cereal crops are mainly grown and this plays an important role in the district. The area of land which is used for agriculture represents 54% of the total area, 7 813 hectares. The farms are fairly large compared to the district average : 84.9 hectares against 55.7 hectares.
